Below, you'll find some fast facts about being a transfer student at Tech. To the right, we've provided information on admission requirements, credit transfer, scholarships, financial aid and a handy application checklist to get you started.

WVU Tech enrolls transfer students from all over. Students come to us from West Virginia, from throughout the United States and from all over the world.

Transfer Student Scholarships

Scholarships are available for high achieving transfer students. If your cumulative transfer GPA is at least 3.0, check out the opportunities to earn a scholarship at WVU Tech.

Transfer Registration and Orientation

Please sign up for a Golden Bear Registration Day. You will select either a morning or an afternoon session. Additional details will be provided in your confirmation email following your RSVP. If you have 30 or more hours of previous college course work, you will be directed a faculty member from your academic major after completing the form. If you have questions regarding your registration, please contact Amanda Baker at amanda.baker2@mail.wvu.edu.


Application Deadlines for Transfers

WVU Tech has a rolling admissions policy, which means we do not have a specific deadline by which you must apply. Applicants are considered for and informed of admission on a first-come, first-served basis. For you to be considered for transfer admission, all application materials and supporting documents must be received by these dates:

  • by December 31 for spring semester admission
  • by August 1 for fall semester admission

We recommend you apply as early as possible.


Disclaimer for those sending transcripts to WVU Tech via National Student Clearinghouse

When using the National Student Clearinghouse to request transcripts, please be advised that WVU Tech is not listed as a recipient. In order to have the National Student Clearinghouse transcripts sent to us, please select the option: “Not on the list” and manually enter "WVU Tech". We apologize in advance for this inconvenience. Dual Campus Admit Disclaimer

If you are a transfer student who has applied and been admitted to another divisional campus of WVU (WVU Morgantown or WVU Keyser), you may still qualify for admission to WVU Tech - WVU Beckley, but will need to transition your application to our campus. To transition your application to WVU Tech - WVU Beckley, please contact the Office of Admissions for the other campus you have been admitted to.

Admissions Requirements

Students who have completed at least 24 credit hours seeking transfer admission to WVU Tech must be academically eligible to return to the institution from which they wish to transfer. In addition, WVU Tech requires a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all transfer work.

Students with fewer than 24 credit hours, excluding developmental courses, must also meet first-time admission standards:

Students must either have a 3.0 high school GPA and attempted the ACT, or have both a composite ACT score of 18 (960 SAT) and a high school GPA of 2.0. In addition, students must have taken specified high school courses.*

4 English | 4 Social Studies/Fine Arts | 3 Science | 3 Mathematics | 2 World Language

Transfer students who are not eligible to enroll at their previous institution for disciplinary reasons (suspension or expulsion) are not eligible for admission. Students who have received any other form of disciplinary sanction from their previous institution may be admitted only after review of the conduct and circumstances that gave rise to the disciplinary sanction.

*Students with fewer than 30 transfer credits must take the orientation course, University W191, First Year Experience.

Credit Transfer: Info to Know

WVU Tech will accept a maximum of 72 semester hours of lower-division credit from two-year community and technical colleges toward a baccalaureate degree. Additional credit may be transferred from accredited four-year colleges and universities, but the major department and Registrar will determine which courses may be applicable to a particular degree. In all cases, transfer students will be required to complete at least 36 hours of credit in residence at WVU Tech prior to graduation.

Application Checklist

  1. Complete and submit the university application for admission. (There's no application fee!)

    If you are switching to WVU Tech (WVU Beckley) from another WVU campus, please complete the Change of Campus form instead of the undergraduate application.

  2. Have your official transcript from each college or university attended sent to our Admissions Office:

  3. If you have earned less than 24 semester hours, please send an official copy of the high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores to the Admissions Office.
  4. File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)Our code is  003827.
  5. Learn about our residence life on campus and sign up for housing.
  6. Schedule a campus visit.
